Are you worried that your job might be in jeopardy in this ailing economy? If so, you might want to check out a new section at eLearners.com. Titled "Recession & Your Education," this in-depth resource offers a variety of tools and tips such as a recession preparedness quiz, a list of resume mistakes and tips on how to improve your own marketability and broaden your skills to become more competitive.

eLearners.com, a leading Web site that connects students with online education, this week announced its new "Recession & Your Education" section to help recession-proof careers as more jobs are on the line. The comprehensive section is located at www.elearners.com/recession.

As our economy continues to struggle, the numbers released from the U.S. Department of Labor are grim. The number of people without a job increased to 11.1 million in December 2008, pushing the unemployment rate to 7.2 percent. The numbers are even more troubling for high school graduates with no college education. For those individuals, the unemployment rate reached 7.7 percent. However, for people with some college and even a bachelor's degree, there is a silver lining. The Labor Department shows that the unemployment rate for people with at least a bachelor's degree was 3.7 percent; that's four percentage points lower than those with no college training.

"These numbers speak loud and clear. If you have a college degree you are more likely to ride through these tough times without losing your job," said Terrence Thomas, EVP Marketing Operations for EducationDynamics, the parent company of eLearners.com. "A college degree has never been more valuable than it is today. Although very few jobs are ever completely recession-proof, the jobs that require at least a bachelor's degree are weathering this storm better than others."

eLearners.com's "Recession & Your Education" site is an easy-to-navigate and in-depth resource offering information covering all facets of the recession. Featured topics include:

  • How Safe Am I from the Recession?
This resource lets people take a quiz to help assess their safety level in terms of career, education, and recession preparedness.
  • Make Yourself Marketable
This resource helps people broaden their skills and competencies to become more competitive. Certain abilities are prized across all fields, industries, and experience levels.
  • Common R?sum? Mistakes
When job-hunting, an up-to-date r?sum? is essential. This resource helps avoid common mistakes.
  • Is Distance Learning Right for You?
Though education is a worthwhile and enriching investment for anyone, distance learning may or may not be the right option. This resource provides questions to determine school readiness.
