To compete in a global economy, the United States must improve its math and science education, according to a new report released today. Improvement isn't just the responsibility of the government or educators, either. Citizens across various sectors need to collaborate and follow a unified plan of action.
The report by the Carnegie Corporation of New York
–– Institute for Advanced Study Commission on Mathematics and Science Education called on a number of groups to follow its plan of action, including the federal government, states, schools and districts, colleges and universities, unions, businesses, nonprofit organizations and philanthropists.
In the introduction, commission members argue that "as a guiding principle, we should take every opportunity to build math and science learning into all school reform initiatives, at every grade level, for every student."
