What student wouldn't want to learn physics by riding a roller coaster? And that's just one of the projects at a summer camp in Hampton, Va., which was designed to get high school students interested in STEM careers, the Daily Press reports.
At Time for New Career Choices: Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) 101, students were able to participate in hands-on activities, hear presentations by professionals and go on fun field trips. The camp came at a time when candidates for governor and industry leaders have been calling for more training for a STEM workforce.
The camp aims to inspire young students by giving them realistic glimpses of the field. For instance, students that want to be a brain surgeon or an astronaut will get to meet professionals working in the fields.
