Not too long ago educators measured success or failure by looking back at past years’ performances. They would evaluate student, teacher and school as well as district performances based upon questions like "How did they do?" or "How did we measure up?" Trend analyses focused on how things were done months or even years ago. In this Internet age of global competition and individual accountability, that is no longer acceptable.
Today schools and campuses are under pressure to dramatically improve learning while keeping their budgets in check. The challenge to not only do more with less, but to do it better, is demanding that institutions implement ever more sophisticated technologies. Those technologies include a class of Campus Management Systems (CMS) solutions. Over the last few decades these systems have evolved to provide timely data for administrators to manage and teachers to instruct more effectively. CMS technologies are changing assessment questions to "How are we measuring up?" in real time. Data no longer sits as simply cold facts. It is viable information that can enable just-in-time decision making by enabling administrators to adjust resources and teachers to tailor learning for individual students.
This Special Report discusses the need for CMS solutions and highlights options available to institutions. The primary thrust of this report will focus on the broad category of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) and the more defined areas of Student Information Systems and Longitudinal Data Solutions.
