Mississippi preschoolers from poor families improved their reading skills and learned more vocabulary when they studied with the lions, a University of Pennsylvania study found.
Child care centers used educational material based on the PBS series "Between the Lions" to prevent kids from falling behind in their reading, reports . The children watched episodes of the show, read books and sang songs. Those who used this curriculum scored higher on national reading tests than those who did not use it.
