La Crosse campuses have recently started looking a lot greener. That's because local universities and colleges have been pushing sustainability initiatives to set an example of how to preserve the environment, the La Crosse Tribune reports.
For example, Viterbo University recently doubled the number of recycle bins on campus, and to save energy, the university decided to turn down all building thermostats to 69 degrees.
At the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, students voted to increase tuition by $5 to pay for a Green Fund for energy-efficiency projects, and the university is currently competing in the nationwide Recyclemania challenge. Also, Western Technical College will debut a new recycling Web site April 22 on Earth Day.
