Wind Turbine to Power Michigan Public School

As more schools turn to alternative energy to save money and teach students about sustainability, the first wind turbine to be installed at a public school in Michigan is slated to be up and running by April 8, msnbc reports.
The Warren school district broke ground this week on the 30-foot Windspire turbine, which will be used to help power the Macomb Mathematic Science Technology Center. Students will help construct the wind turbine and the district says it will allow students to "research wind technology and study the future of using wind power to generate electricity for residential or commercial use." The turbine will produce about 1,200 watts of electricity -- enough to power one classroom.
