The Fund has two giving cycles for organizations in St. Louis and communities that do not have a Production, Technology, or Manufacturing Site. Preliminary Funding Requests (PFRs) are due January 1 and July 1 of each year. Organizations whose PFR's are seen as having promise will be invited to submit a full grant application. Anyone submitting a PFR will be notified of the status of their request within six weeks. Grants are usually awarded in June and December of each calendar year. Emailed PFRs are acceptable and should be sent to monsanto.fund@monsanto.com, faxed PFRs are not acceptable.
Monsanto Fund has four focus areas: (1) Nutritional Improvement through Agriculture - Monsanto looks to support programs that implement sustainable agricultural improvements through education and research. Program areas include field techniques, education in the areas of nutrition and vitamin deficiency and reducing the impact of pest and virus' on subsistence crops. (2) Science Education includes Teacher training, science fairs, and museum exhibitions. (3) Healthy Environment: Monsanto seeks projects which conserve and protect special places and teach children and families how to value them. (4) Our Communities: Awards under this focus area are directed at the places where Monsanto employees live and work, these are programs that are generally agreed upon between the community and Monsanto site management. A proposed project must fit within one of the Fund's priority areas. Projects that qualify under the "Our Communities" category need to reflect a locally established priority, decided jointly by Monsanto employees and community representatives.
