The Orange County Community Foundation funds nonprofits organizations in southern California. Since 1989 the foundation has funded over $100 million in grants to a wide range of organizations that serve the residents of Orange County. The Orange County Community Foundation funds grants in the following areas: (1) Arts and music; (2) Disaster relief; (3) Education; (4) Environment; (5) Health; (6) Human Services; and (7) Social enterprise. Allowable expenses include: (1) Implementation of a new program; (2) Continuation or expansion of a program, if able to document history of compelling, qualified impact; (3) Organizational capacity building; (4) Personnel, facility, supplies, equipment, and other direct expenses essential to the project; (5) Community outreach/publicity to targeted clients; (6) Staff or volunteer training; (7) Indirect costs, but an explanation must be provided justifying the need. Expenses that are not eligible for funding are: (1) Lobbying; (2) Annual fund drives; (3) Underwriting or sponsoring social or special events; (4) Telethons, or similar fund-raising activities; (5) Debt retirement or budget deficits; (6) Academic or scientific research projects; (7) More than 25% of agency annual budget; and/or (8) Endowment campaigns. Grant seekers must complete a formal application. Unsolicited grant proposals are not accepted. Please see the grant description page for application dates and deadlines. In addition, a progress report and a final report on grant expenditures and results are required. A site visit to your agency may be conducted by OCCF staff.
