The Georgia Power Foundation's giving is focused on issues that directly affect Georgia Power customers, employees, business and shareholders. The areas of focus for the foundations are: (1) Health/Human Services - Georgia Power supports health and human services through annual contributions to United Way. These contributions have touched thousands of lives through the hundreds of nonprofit agencies that United Way supports across the sate. The foundation also supports Project SHARE, a program of The Salvation Army created to help those in need pay their home energy bills and meet other emergency needs; (2) Improving education - Georgia Power's commitment to education focuses on initiatives to help the company recruit a quality work force of engineers, linemen and other highly skilled employees. We are partnering with Georgia Tech and Spellman College dual degree engineering program to assist students with personal development, mentoring and career exploration. The Georgia Power Foundation also matches qualifying contributions from Georgia Power employees and retirees to accredited institutions of higher learning; (3) Protecting the Environment - Preserving and protecting the environment is near and dear to the hearts of Georgia Power employees. The foundation supports programs to improve air and water quality, preserve natural resources and protect endangered species; (4) Arts and Culture - Georgia Power's support of the National Black Arts Festival and the Woodruff Arts Center in Atlanta are just two examples of the company's commitment to causes that support the arts. The support of these organizations, and other regional and local arts and cultural organizations, reflects the important role that civic and cultural events play in developing a community's full potential; and, (5) Region and Plant Initiatives - Region and plant locations provide support to numerous organizations. These locations have the ability to better determine how the company should best support charitable organizations within their respective areas. Each region and plant has an opportunity to determine specific initiatives sponsored by local organizations that further promote the company's strategic giving efforts. Regional contacts can be found at the Region Management Map at: http://www.georgiapower.com/community/charitygpc/state-big.html.
