Southern Bank Foundation was formed in December of 1996 by Southern Bank and Trust Company. The primary purpose of Southern Bank Foundation is to make charitable gifts and to support not-for-profit community programs in areas of North Carolina served by Southern Bank and Trust company. In this regard, Southern Bank Foundation annually supports a large number and variety of charities involved with education, human services and emergency aid. Funding through the foundation provides support for annual campaigns, building and renovation projects, capital campaigns, debt reduction, purchase of equipment, general operating support, program development and scholarship funds. Recently the foundation has provided funding for expansion of a library at North Carolina Wesleyan College ($25,000); for a capital campaign to fund an eco-tourism facility; a costume fund for the Waterside Theater production of The Lost Colony historical drama ($25,000); a matching gift to the Lois G. Britt Agribusiness Center of Mount Olive College, N.C. ($100,000); toward the capital campaign of the Home Care & Hospice Foundation, Inc. ($100,000), and for other projects and organizations. Through the formation and funding of Southern Bank Foundation, Southern Bank and Trust company is helping to improve the quality of life in the communities of eastern North Carolina.
