The Jones Family Foundation is a private philanthropic organization founded in 1988 by Ora G. Jones, Barbara R. Jones, Scott Jones and Anne Jones of Red Wing, Minnesota. The Jones Family Foundation is a donor advised fund of The Saint Paul Foundation. The Mission of The Jones Family Foundation is to identify, initiate and support endeavors that positively impact the quality of life in the Red Wing area. The Foundation's primary areas of focus will be family special needs, life-long learning, youth development and community sustainability. The Foundation will serve as a positive catalyst within its community by initiating projects which support its mission. It will challenge its Board members to bring forward their ideas in this regard. It will primarily focus its resources toward program oriented projects with measurable results that positively impact the community. It will endeavor to help nonprofit organizations within its geography to build capacity and sustainability. It will respond to new and existing grant requests in a way that provides needed support but does not make the requesting organization or project primarily dependent upon our funding. It will, where possible, attempt to maximize the potential for a project by exploring ways to expand or enhance such projects by acting as a convener and by encouraging collaboration among agencies with similar missions. When pursuing transformational projects, it will consider partnerships with like-minded funders and agencies to achieve our goals. It will always devote a portion of its annual grantmaking through its Family Special Needs Portfolio to families and individuals that are disadvantaged. It will refrain from making grants for political agendas. Further, the Foundation will refrain from grantmaking to narrowly focused organizations representing extremist views. It will select quality leadership for our Board of Directors to sustain its mission, providing them with education, a strong sense of financial responsibility to the long term goals of the Foundation, and an atmosphere of creativity and caring. It will encourage current and estate giving from others in support of its mission. The Jones Family Foundation will be a perpetual organization; its assets and grants should be governed and managed in a way that ensures the sustainability of the Foundation. The Foundation's vision is that the Red Wing community, non profit organizations, and donor-investors will create and support partnerships committed to transformational thinking and actions that contribute to the health, growth and sustainability of Red Wing. In order to achieve this vision, the Jones Family Foundation frequently acts as a convener or catalyst in building community partnerships to better understand and address crucial community issues. The Jones Family Foundation participates in a variety of community initiatives through public/private partnerships and collaborations. The vision of the Jones Family Foundation in the area of Life Long Learning is to inspire the Red Wing area educational system, school boards, community, and supportive organizations to collaboratively offer the best educational opportunities in the Midwest for all learners. The Foundation believes this goal can be achieved through the elimination of socio-economic disparities in opportunity and performance; a creative and challenging curriculum for all learners; and highly qualified and motivated teachers who are rewarded for performance.
The Jones Family Foundation is involved in a variety of educational initiatives throughout the Red Wing community through grants and partnerships with both public and private non-profit organizations.
One of the areas of focus for The Jones Family Foundation is the area of Family Special Needs. Healthy families are critical to building healthy fit organizations in the Red Wing area which provide individuals and families with temporary support for basic needs. Grants from this portfolio are funded through the Barbara Jones Special Needs Fund and the Foundation's general grantmaking process. The vision of the Jones Family Foundation in the area of Youth Development is to provide transformational learning, mentoring, and character building for Red Wing youth that will positively influence their development as citizens. The Foundation can accomplish this through funding initiatives and partnerships with other community organizations that provide mentoring and experiential opportunities for Red Wing Youth.
