Green IT - Utilizing Virtualization Technologies for Greener IT Environments
This presentation is focused on the newest available virtualization technologies for servers and storage attached networks (SAN). Consolidation of servers and storage using virtualization allows for substantial savings on energy, infrastructure and many other costs. Technologies such as Distributed Power Management (VMware) and virtualization of SAN create greener IT environment as well as boost return on investment (ROI) upon deployment. Additionally, this presentation reveals some of the industry collaboration options available for academic institutions interested in teaching storage and virtualization curriculum.

Millennials: Reaching and Teaching Digital Natives With Web 2.0
The Millennials are bringing more to the colleges than tattoos, flip-flops, low-hanging saggy pants that expose body parts or undergarments and iPods. They have new ways of learning communicating, collaborating and getting things done via the new Web 2.0 technology. Digital natives can Blog, Wiki, Flicker, YouTube, consume RSS feeds and use Myspace and Facebook. The speaker will explore the demography of Millennials (Digital Natives), emerging technologies, Web 2.0 concepts, and pedagogical applications of Web 2.0.

Asking for a Second Opinion? Can You Afford Managed IT Care?
Each day is a new day with technology. Technology is full of complex stuff: “laptops, desktops, servers, etc., software, the people who are the planners, the techies who are the glue, and WD 40 who make it all work”. In fall 2008, the Dallas County Community College District embarked on a second opinion assessment with an external consulting group to help us see ourselves, our successes, and our challenges through a new lens.

Environmental Benefits of IT Efficiency
The digital universe is expanding at an amazing rate and the Information Technology essential to this growth is now consuming resources – people, energy, materials & space – at an unsustainable rate. Significant advances in efficiency such as Cloud Computing and IT consumed as a service create exciting potential to deliver information value while minimizing consumption of human and natural resources. This presentation will examine key trends toward future IT foundations by:
- Improving operational efficiency while enhancing performance and reducing environmental impacts
- Making wise investments while setting the stage for future achievement
- Emphasizing greater agility and flexibility while reducing costs
- Dick Sullivan, Director of Enterprise IT Efficiency Development, EMC Corporation

vTSTC: Beyond a Second Life!
Ready to move past the question of… "What is Second Life?" … and to the heart of how to leverage virtual worlds for applicable teaching? This presentation will serve as an outline of how the folks at TSTC developed their virtual presence (vTSTC) and deployed their first college program entirely supported within the virtual world of Second Life.
Participants in this workshop will get an inside look at virtual world education in practice and be encouraged to ask the "Hows and Whys?". We will discuss the strengths and weaknesses of traditional distance learning methods in contrast to virtual world platforms as a delivery mechanism. The ultimate goal of the workshop will be to answer common questions in relation to virtual world education and, in turn, promote audience members to leave with a new perspective when it comes to "online" delivery.
- Chris Gibson, Associate Vice President Educational Technology, Texas State Technical College

Teaching Online: Strategies for Student Success
Two Collin professors of English and Spanish will present tips to promote student success in online courses. The focus for the English session will be teaching an online composition class and the need for clarity and interaction. The Spanish session will cover special issues of teaching foreign language online. Each professor will present a 20-minute lecture with the remaining 20 minutes devoted to audience participation, questions, and discussion.

Why Recycle When You Can Eliminate Waste With TRACSYSTEMS Solutions?
Free printing and copying equals unnecessary printing and copying. The result is overflowing recycling bins and piles of documents sitting unclaimed on top of printers in libraries, computer labs, and student printing centers. This affects both the environment and the bottom line. TRACSYSTEMS helps address these issues by giving institutions the ability to generate less waste and experience lower costs with custom print management policies.
- Jeff Libby, President, TRACSYSTEMS
- Jonathan Libby, Director of Sales, TRACSYSTEMS
- Freddy Rodriguez, Director of Technical Support, TRACSYSTEMS
Create a Single Authoritative Source of Constituent Data Across Your Institution
Learn how Oracle's Higher Education Constituent Hub can help community colleges capture the student's academic progress behind the traditional boundaries of the community college and can simplify sharing the core bio-demographic attributes about constituents among systems.
Oracle's Higher Education Constituent Hub provides clean data for your enterprise. It consolidates, cleanses, de-duplicates, cross-references, governs, and shares constituent master data with administrative/academic processes, operational applications, and analytical systems across the institution.
