Converge is helping public education officials demystify the economic stimulus package as it pertains to K-12 and higher education by visiting six states over the next month and a half.

The six stops include:

  • Texas on April 15th;
  • Arizona on April 17;
  • Florida on April 27;
  • New York on April 29;
  • Illinois on April 30; and
  • California on May 13.

The Demystifying the Package: Surprise Opportunities, Accountability and Transparency will address whether educational institutions have the right partners, how they're planning for accountability and transparency of economic stimulus projects, and whether there are specialized sources of money in the bill that recipients should know about.

As reported in newspapers nationwide, our country is in a recession, which takes a lot out of our already-strapped educational system -- and the federal stimulus package intends to put a share of an allocated $787 billion back in.

While it's true that millions of dollars are available to education for technology, broadband deployment and school modernization, we have also discovered some interesting opportunities for the education community to pursue in some of the "not so obvious" places in the bill.

To find out what those not so obvious places are, among many other stimulus-related information, register for the Texas, Arizona, Florida, New York, Illinois or California Demystifying the Package events.
