America's schools could learn something from Fendalton Open Air School in New Zealand. The children there blog about their school day, upload videos and share photos on the Christchurch primary school's Web site, according to Stuff News.
While this allows the young students to get hands-on experience in Web 2.0, it also lets parents keep a close eye on their child's day-to-day progress. In the article, Principal Paul Sibson said the key to the program is the feedback from parents, who also had to sign a digital safety agreement before their child logged on. "The children are putting their learning online and then the parents are commenting back on it to help them move forward," Sibson said.
The school's innovative use of technology prompted Google's head office in the United States to feature Fendalton on its global blog "highlighting excellence in applications of technology in the classroom."
