The future of dentistry might look like a video game. That's the idea of three Glasgow dental students, who developed a concept that uses the Nintendo Wii console to simulate operative techniques on "virtual patients," according to PhysOrg.com.
With this idea, the three dental students at the University of Glasgow Dental School won the Dental Innovation Technology Ideas Award in a competition that challenged final year students to develop an innovative idea for the dental field.
The technology would allow dental students to practice skills on a screen, using the wireless controllers as dental instruments. The controller could also be used to provide sensory feedback to the user.
Students typically practice dental techniques in a lab, but this technology would give them the opportunity to hone their skills outside of school.
