U.S. President Barack Obama signed into law the much-debated and amended economic stimulus plan on the afternoon of Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2009, according to The Washington Post. The $787 billion American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, which he signed at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science, "aims to spur job growth through massive new investments in energy, transportation, education and health-care projects, while reviving social safety-net programs," according to the article.
The stimulus bill passed the House of Representatives on Friday, Feb. 13, 2009, and passed the U.S. Senate late that same night by a vote of 60-38.
The bill provides $106 billion for education. How the money will be divvied up is forthcoming.
