During Open House, I sat through 10 minutes of stories about a wonderful child. I started to wonder if the teacher had confused me with someone else. Then it hit me. There could only be one answer. I don’t know why I didn’t think of it earlier. It was so obvious.
Change is hard. That’s why I’m not interested. When you work in a school, there is always a lot of talk about changing things (by talk, I mean it rhymes with witching).
This isn’t completely true. Not all parents hate the principal at their child’s school. I thought it was important to clarify because I don’t want to be responsible for scaring teachers who are considering a career in school administration.
We need to stop. Far too many of us spend way too much time teaching our kids to be "winners." It turns out that winning is easy. Losing is hard — especially when you’re not prepared for it. Losing isn’t nice.
