Education Is Destiny |
You know the saying “knowledge is power.” Some interpret this as, “I am more powerful than you if I know more than you.” In an organization, this can discourage co-workers from sharing knowledge with one another because it might reduce each person's individual power.
But this mode of operation is so last century — it simply doesn’t apply anymore. Advancement in the 21st century is about sharing knowledge, not hoarding it.
In our organization, e.Republic (Converge’s parent company), the more we share our ideas and learn about successes in other parts of our company, the better we do. Our best ideas are always a result of teamwork. When thinking about the great innovations of the last decade, you’ll notice that they come from bringing a variety of ideas together (Google, YouTube, robotics, medicine, hybrid vehicles). The new rule is: Sharing knowledge is power.
*Grateful acknowledgment goes to Marc Prensky for reminding me about the importance of collaboration.
