About a week ago the Department of Education announced that states may apply for about $32 billion of the stabilization funds for education programs. So, the federal money is moving. Governors, departments of education and others are preparing and submitting their shovel-ready education plans.
It is an amazing opportunity but not without its challenges. The accountability and transparency of these projects will be be scrutinized in a way like we have never seen before. The media, Internet and new watchdog groups will have access to all kinds of information. Which led me to start thinking about what's next? The security and efficiency of data management is still a hot topic at education conferences and in many magazines. It's going to have to be part of the planning process for stimulus projects.
I have asked our research area to dig in to this topic and I want to hear from you. Please post a comment to this blog or join us for our free Internet seminar on March 31. I pulled together a panel of experts and I am looking forward to a great exchange of information and ideas from those people in education who are getting ready to address this.
