At Laramie County Community College, prospective students can receive customized support through technology. When they log into the school's online portal, the system tailors their student profile with information based on their specific needs. The college, in Cheyenne, Wyo., also bought five Slingboxes that allow faculty and students to use computers to watch programs or breaking news on international channels.
These technology tools have pushed Laramie College to the forefront of the digital age, and the school has received the first place prize for mid-sized colleges with 3,000 to 7,500 students, according to the Center for Digital Education.
The Center surveyed hundred colleges nationwide to find out how they have been innovating with technology in areas including online admissions, student access to transcripts and grades, and curriculum and campus life. Thirty-six in three enrollment catagories were selected for their technology programs.
The Digital Community College survey is conducted annually by the Center for Digital Education and recognizes outstanding utilization of information technology on community college campuses. The 2009 survey was underwritten by HP ProCurve and Oracle.
