One might say that 2008 was a year of "change" -- the campaign slogan of president-elect Barack Obama -- but, really, 2008's adjustments were no more significant than any other year. Wars carry on, power continues to change hands, technology advances by the day and the way people communicate constantly changes.
However, what has always remained the same are people's needs: for food, water, shelter and freedom to determine their future.
Although people may look to better budgeting, sound politics or smarter business to improve these conditions, the answer really lies in education. For us, at Converge magazine, Education Is Destiny. It drives the future success of our people, communities and nation.
Beginning this year, Converge is broadening its education mission to include factors central to 21st-century learning and civilizations. These issues include STEM, universal literacy, arts and humanities, digital infrastructure and education technology, green and vibrant schools and an integrated workforce and economic development initiatives.
With that, the following is Converge's "2009 List of Lists" -- a pool of lists and predictions that will continue the trend of change in the education arena. Take a look: These are the lists -- in no particular order -- that are shaping education and a child's destiny.
